Meeting Rooms at the Lexington Public Library

Library meeting rooms are available for non-profit, for profit, and community organizations seeking to hold free meetings, trainings, and workshops. The meeting rooms may not be used for direct sales, solicitation, non-library fundraisers, social or celebratory events.

Meeting rooms are free of charge. Electric appliances and heating elements are prohibited.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I begin my meeting before the Library opens or end it after the Library is closed?

No. All meetings must be held during regular operating hours. If you are interested in holding an event or function after hours, the Farish Theater may be able to accommodate your event.

Can I bring food to my meeting?

Yes, customers may bring in certain kinds of food and covered beverages. Here are some guidelines for the types of food that are allowed in meeting rooms. If you have questions, call us at 859-231-5504 or 859-231-5501.

Examples of allowable food and beverages:

Prepacked snacks such as granola bars, chips, and cookies
donuts and pastries
canned soft drinks
coffee in cardboard packaging or insulated carafe
trays of meats, cheeses, fruits and vegetables
box lunches
delivery pizza

Examples of prohibited food and beverages:

Anything requiring a heating element (i.e. crockpot, hotplate, sterno, percolator)
Gallons or bottles of juice, tea, or soft drinks
Alcoholic beverages
Buffets and potlucks

Can I have a wedding or baby shower in the library?

No. Celebratory events are prohibited in the library.

Can I reserve a room for a study group?

Yes. Individuals and groups can reserve meeting rooms in advance for studying. Beaumont, Eastside, Northside, and Tates Creek branches have have small study rooms that are available for 2 hours on a first come, first serve basis. They may not be reserved in advance.

Can I sell products or charge people to come to a training?

No. All meetings held in Library conference rooms must be free and the sale of goods and services are prohibited. If you are interested in holding a program that requires an entrance fee, or you wish to be able to sell products, the Farish Theater may be able to accommodate your event.

Do I have to pay to use a meeting room?

No, there is no charge for meeting room use.

How do I reserve a room?

Library meeting rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis. Non-profit, for profit, and community organizations may reserve rooms up to 30 days in advance. Individuals wishing to have a private meeting may not reserve rooms in advance, but can use space as a walk in.

Reservations can be made through the Library’s website a minimum of 72 hours in advance of the meeting. Use of the room will be confirmed when official confirmation is received by the meeting organizer. Confirmation will be sent to the meeting organizer within 24 hours of receipt or on the next business day.

How far in advance can I reserve a meeting room?

Reservations are accepted inside a 30-day window.

How often can I use a Library meeting room?

You may use Library meeting rooms 6 times per year, per location. For example, you may have six meetings at the Northside Branch, another six meetings at the Central Library, etc.

I have a meeting at the Central Library. Where do I park?

The Lexington Public Library Parking Garage is accessible from both Main and Vine Streets, and the Library provides two hours of validated parking. Attendees should have their Lexington Public Library Parking Garage tickets validated at the first floor service desk. Groups wishing to pre-pay for attendee parking beyond the two hours can make arrangements at the time of reservation.

I want to advertise my event. What is the correct way to advertise the meeting location?

I want to make a reservation online, but I can't select the right date. What is wrong?

Online reservations can be made a minimum of 72 hours in advance. If your meeting is within 72 hours, call 859-231-5504 or 859-231-5501.

The meeting room procedure also limits how far in advance you may use the meeting room. If you are attempting to reserve a room for a day more than 30 days in the future, the system will not allow you to reserve time on those days.

May I hang things on meeting room walls?

Only self adhesive 3M flip chart sheets are allowed to be attached to the walls. You may not use thumbtacks, tape, or other adhesives to attach visual aids to meeting room walls.

Central Library - Farish Theater

The William Stamps Farish, III Theater at the Central Library is available to the community for lectures, live music, community forums, film festivals, small theatrical productions, dance performances, literary readings, debates, and other creative uses.

Central Library - Computer Center

This space may be used by the community to conduct computer classes or practice sessions for children, teens and adults. This may include classes on the Microsoft Office Suite, coding, or how to use various websites/social media platforms.

Eastside Branch - Makerspace

This creative workshop space is reserved for groups seeking to do small, hands-on projects. This may include sewing, art, stamping, crafts, small woodworking projects, or other hands-on activities. Projects that involve large power tools, spray paint, chemicals, or tools that might produce sparks or burning are prohibited. All projects must be approved by the Makerspace Coordinator.
