Summer Reading Events

Choose the correct age group:

Wee Reader Instructions

(For Birth to age 2)

Recommended for birth to 2 years of age.

Starting the day you pick up your childs reading log or printing it from this page, check off each activitiy on the log as you complete it with your child.
Return the completed form by July 31, 2013, and be entered into a drawing for parents to prize.
(NOTE: You can’t get prizes the same day you sign-up.)

What Makes A Good Book For Wee Readers?

Thick, sturdy cover and pages
Bright, colorful, clear pictures
Simple geometric shapes
Photos of faces, especially babies
Few words
Nursery rhymes
Stories with rhyme, rythm, and repetition

Read-With-Me Instructions

(Ages 2 - Reading age)

Recommended for children who are not yet reading, or who are not yet comfortable reading on their own.
You can READ or do ANY of the activities listed on the back of your Read-With-Me Reading Log [6].
When you complete a task, color in one star or sun.
Once you have filled in all the stars or suns bring this page in to the Library for a prize.
All finishers will receive an invitation to a finishers party.
All reading logs need to be returned by July 31st, 2013.
When you return your completed reading log you can enter to win Prizes! [7]

Read-With-Me Suggested Activities

Take turns telling stories during meal times.
Draw, write, or paint with an adult.
Act out your favorite book with your dolls or stuffed animals.
Attend a library program. To sign up for the library calendar by e-mail, go to www.lexpublib.org/nextreads [8].
Hunt for letters, shapes, or colors.
Take a nature walk and talk about the plants and animals that you see.
Read a rhyming book and make your own silly rhymes.
Listen and sing along to a music CD from the library.
Sign-up for e-mail reminders online or at the Library.
E-mail subscribers will be eligible for special prizes.
Or other educational activities of your choosing.

(Grade School)

Earn double minutes for school required reading.
For example: 15 minutes of school required reading will count for 30 minutes.
Bring a friend to sign up for Summer Reading - earn 15 minutes.
Come to a program at the Library - earn 15 minutes.
To sign up for the library calendar by e-mail, go to www.lexpublib.org/nextreads [8].
Bring a friend to a program at the Library - earn 15 minutes.
Read to someone - earn 15 minutes.
Ask the librarian for other ways to earn minutes.
