“Outside of a dog, a book is a man’s best friend. Inside a dog, it’s too dark to read.”

-Groucho Marx

A Gift More Valuable Than Words

You needn’t look far to see evidence of the rapid societal changes taking place in our community. Never has it been so important to know how to use a computer, to speak and write the English language, or to address the growing needs of young people. Throughout its 200 year history, the Lexington Public Library has successfully created programs that effectively address the changing needs of all people.

"We started going to the Library when she was a toddler. The Librarians made the experience for her - they listened to her questions, took her seriously and provided great activities for kids. She had a wonderful time and felt like she owned the Library. Now when we visit, our goal is to check out only four books, but we usually end up with 10!"

Free computers and computer classes, English as a Second Language and on-line homework help are just three examples of Lexington Public Library programs established to help those with the desire to learn, to meet their goals. These, and other library programs, give people the skills they need to get a job, graduate from school and become productive members of society, thereby benefiting the community as a whole.

By donating to the Library Foundation, you are giving a powerful gift to the people of Lexington. You are insuring that no people will be lost in their quest to find information, that the future of our city will be strong in its ability to grow and change with technological and societal advances, and that the civic right of access to information will remain intact for generations to come.
