This position is full-time.
Job Responsibilities
One year grant-funded position (position is for one year only from start date); experience with teaching basic computer skills; experience with community programming and partnerships; ability to take mobile computer lab into community settings, including outdoor settings, and teach classes on the spot; ability to push mobile computer cart over a variety of surfaces. Develops training materials, lesson plans, and instructional hand-outs; teaches adult classes utilizing a variety of software packages, PCs and related equipment. Provides assistance with online job searches, application submission and resume formatting. Experience working with diverse audiences. Some technical skill required in terms of knowing how to hook up computers and resolve minor issues with performance. Requires ability to help participants fill out and submit online job applications, conduct online job searches, and update and/or create resumes on the computer.

CONTACTS
Library customers, LPL staff, professional organizations and associates, and community groups.
Provide exceptional customer service by teaching and assisting customers with checkout and other circulation-related tasks.
Assist customers in utilizing library tools, including the library website and databases, basic internet resources, the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), copiers, computers, printers, reader printers, etc.
Proactively seek out customers to offer assistance in all parts of the library or department.
Suggest books and authors to customers upon request and assist customers in locating and reserving library materials.
Provide accurate information about library resources and services to customers.
Explain the policies and procedures of the library to customers.
Perform routine collection maintenance tasks according to assignment.
Utilize library e-mail on a daily basis in order to stay informed about library matters.
Hold customers accountable for following the LPL Code of Conduct and Internet Use Policy or refer to appropriate supervisory level as needed.
Respect the facility and work environment by keeping work area neat, handling minor cleanups, and reporting maintenance issues promptly and appropriately
Interact and communicate pleasantly and effectively with diverse customers and staff, maintaining a positive and professional demeanor and providing friendly courteous service.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Quickly learn and apply fundamental library procedures, methods, and techniques after orientation and training.
Establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships with library customers and co-workers.
Provide basic readers advisory.
Troubleshoot equipment as needed.
Carry out with limited supervision continuing assignments related to the daily operations of the library.
Follow oral and written instructions.
Effectively communicate both orally and in writing with customers and staff.
Learn and adapt to new and changing technologies.
Understand the boundaries of job responsibilities and refer customers to trained library staff appropriately.
Work the required schedule and help fill in schedule gaps occasionally.
Must have working knowledge of current Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office products and navigation of the Internet.
Some knowledge of or ability to quickly learn and follow standard library procedures
May be required to be bi-lingual.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Possession of a bachelors degree. Some experience in library work related to assignment or any equivalent combination of experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the ability to:
Efficiently operate and manipulate office equipment such as keyboard, mouse, printer and copier equipment.
Place books on book trucks, move book trucks, and place and remove books from any shelf of a 90 inch high shelving unit, repeatedly lifting above, at and below shoulder level.
Climb a step stool to secure books and other library materials.
Perform essential functions which require bending, stooping, lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 40 lbs, and standing for periods of 2-3 hours.
Work without sitting for a minimum of two hours, and during that time is able to move with reasonable speed to locations throughout the workspace in order to accomplish public services duties.

HAZARDS/UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is often performed in and around books, shelves, and computers, requiring adherence to industry safety procedures and guidelines.

Salary
$11.38 per hour
Primary Work Schedule
Mon through Friday 9am-5pm.
Schedule varies according to demands. Frequent evenings and weekends as needed.
